Here

Here among the neophytes and the nephilim
The believers and betrayers nuns and naysayers
Among affirmations of time and no time
With voices seen and nameless love
Where angels cry and questions wait
Where stars speak   waters sing   and earth ceases its spin

Here is where I wait for you
Will you come in the dark without knowing
Will you come with the wind brushing my hair
Will you hum like giraffes in the night
Will you come late with excuses   or early with whispers

Here is where I wait for you
Will you be the dream never dreamed
Will you come with what I need to hear
Will you come with bells and bones, oceans and orishas
Will you want me as I am   pretend my lips are yours
Will you make the sun smile, the night jealous, the moon go mad

Here is where I wait for you
            Will I know your name
Will the air close its fists tight around us
Will you come with flowers or forests
Will you bring all the pieces of you
Will your brilliance hurt my eyes
Will you walk with thunder, kiss me like rain
Will you be the end of my beginnings   name the moments I’ve lost
Will you come soft as baby’s breath, cotton picked by grandma’s hands,
like her skin before she died
Will you come like barefoot fields and full bellies
Will you come before I forget who I am,
before the last call, the first light of day
Will you look for me or look like heaven
Will you find me working late, working words,
or working like I’m worth it

Here is where I wait for you
            Will you come with expectations
Will you come without guile, without words or language to understand
Will you come soon ... or not at all
