Odds and ends from around the Valley:
Congratulations to Ray Castellani of Tarzana and his Frontline Foundation, which
will soon be celebrating its 15th anniversary of feeding the homeless down on
Skid Row in Los Angeles.
Castellani, who once lived on the streets himself, made his first trip downtown
with 111 peanut butter-and-jelly sandwiches and since then has served over
750,000 meals.
In 1995, President Clinton invited Ray to the White House, where he received a
President's Service Award, considered the nation's highest volunteer award.
I've gone down to Skid Row with Ray a few times over the years to write columns
about the great work he's doing, and his constant struggles to keep his
foundation going on a shoestring budget.
He's a dedicated guy doing a tough job. For more
information on the Frontline Foundation, call (818)
780-1995.
Dennis McCarthy's column appears Tuesday, Thursday, Friday and Sunday.
